AGITATOR ARTIST COLLECTIVE is a group of visual artist-curator members. Each member organizes an exhibit annually as well as promoting/supporting other art events. We host a publication group that produces the AGITATOR COMICS! Journal and other catalogs, zines, booklets, artist books and portfolios. Agitator realizes and pursues it’s mission by platforming art made by local artists and those artists conventionally overlooked or disenfranchised by the commercial art world. We create, sponsor and exhibit work that agitates, provokes dialogue, celebrates diversity and generates community, while respecting each artist’s vision and self-definition. Our Role is as Diverse As Our Community Members of Agitator are diverse artist-curators with various racial, socioeconomic, gender, and sexual identities. Although Agitator’s primary focus is curating artwork, we have hosted events for Art of Science, the Agitator Lyceum Series, Feminist Fridays, Cuerpos Justificados, Chicago Honky Tonk, Indivisible Chicago, Chicago Noise Free Jazz Orchestra and more. We also host nonprofit, cultural and social justice groups at our space and sponsor occasional pop-up art shows with outside curators.
